Start of the route

The route begins where the Camposoto Beach road ends. After crossing the bridge that leads to the beach, we follow the wooden boardwalk, which allows us to walk easily over the sand. This boardwalk appears intermittently along the route.

Point of Interest No. 4: Castle Viewpoint

We will come across informational panels about the Castle of Sancti Petri, the changes in the Bay of Cádiz over time, the marshlands and the channel, as well as the formation of the coastal spit and the processes that shape the coastline.

La Batería de Aspiroz

After walking the first three kilometers of the trail, we take a left turn onto a faint path through low shrubs, leading to the second battery, known as the Aspiroz Battery. This small defensive fortification was used during the Siege of Cádiz.

La batería de Urrutia

“We return to the trail and arrive at the Urrutia Battery. During the War of Independence (1808–1814), the batteries of Urrutia, Aspiroz, San Genís, San Melitón, the Lacy redoubt, and the Castle of Sancti Petri formed a key defensive system at Punta del Boquerón. Their mission was to protect the Sancti Petri channel from the advance of Napoleonic troops and to secure maritime access to Chiclana.

La batería de San Genís

The San Genís Battery is located at a strategic point at the entrance to the Sancti Petri channel. It played a key role during the Siege of Cádiz in the Spanish War of Independence. It is named after the military engineer Antonio Sangenís Torres, an expert in designing fortifications prepared to withstand sieges.
